At the Eveleigh Markets the other week I bought the most gorgeous tray of figs. Beautiful ripe and fresh..I was going to make the Spiced Ricotta Tart with caramelised figs instead of the stonefruit but thought better of it when I realised I wouldn’t be able to take it to work, therefore increasing the chances of me sitting on the couch and eating the whole thing myself!
So I did the next best thing and made a healthier alternative. Using my favourite loaf recipe from Bill Granger, I ditched the usual bananas and substituted the figs…
So next time you feel the urge to bake come on, give this recipe a try (the other cool thing about it is that it’s fat free!)

The trend for markets in Sydney is growing. The newest kid on the block is the Eveleigh Markets at the Carriageworks in Redfern. This huge space works perfectly for a market, with it’s vast undercover space, large outdoor space, cafes and station close by.
When I arrive just on 10am, on an extremely muggy Saturday, the market is already packed with families and cool urban dwellers checking out the tasty goodies on offer.
This is a great little recipe when you need something sweet but still want to be reasonably good. I’ve adapted it from a recipe from the Taste site. The hardest part of this recipe is cutting up the fruit! You can halve this recipe too!
Lunchtime, Friday. What am I going to eat? Been away in Armidale, so no left overs at home, and don’t fancy tuna in a can. Don’t want to go all the way over to St Mary’s Cathedral for Hawkesbury Harvest Markets either…What’s a girl to do? Of course! Eureka! Go to The Rocks Markets! Yes, much smaller selection and no hot food, but still a walk, though shorter, and an abundance of tasty bits!

Recently , I’ve been getting busier. I’m not sure if it’s the time of the year or what, but with trying to catch up with friends, the usual domestic drudgery and trying to do things for myself (like exercising), on top of work, I often find I don’t have the time to go to my favourite grocers etc So I looked into some of the fruit and veg home delivery services.
After seeking some advice from other foodbloggers, I settled on a mixed box from Abundant Organics. This box is meant for 1 person, cost me $36 (no delivery charge)!
Until yesterday, it felt like summer…and last night I had my second mango of the season….yum…
